Leek Town ended Prescot Cables’ eight match unbeaten run, becoming the first team to keep a clean sheet against the Pesky Bulls this season as they recorded an emphatic victory.
The Blues were in the ascendancy from the start from Cables and Robert Stevenson made the score 1-0 to Leek after 17 minutes.
25 minutes into the game, Leek used a through ball to create a potential one-on-one with Kyle Haslam, but James McCulloch did enough to force the attack away from goal.
After 31 minutes, the hosts created another one-on-one with Kyle Haslam but he made a brilliant save to deny Leek a goal.
Early in the second half, Jordan Johnson doubled the home side’s advantage, scoring from a free kick.
A penalty was given on 68 minutes for handball in the Cables area. Darren Chadwick stepped up to take and beat Haslam to make the score 3-0.
On 81 minutes, Robert Stevenson found the net for the second time, making the score 4-0.
Cables continued to press Town and with a couple of minutes remaining Jordan Southworth had their best sight of goal, although his header was comfortably saved by home ‘keeper Danny Roberts.
That was the final noteworthy action of a ‘bad day at the office’ although playing again on Monday does give Cables the chance to bounce back quickly, albeit away to in-form Atherton Collieries side.
