Prescot Cables were made to work hard for all three points this afternoon at Hope Street as they edged past a dogged and determined Brighouse Town team.
The home side played arguably their best football of the season in the first half and were rewarded for their performance when they took the lead on 25 minutes. George Hassall fired into the bottom of the net after the ball came to him in the box from a Cables corner. This was no more than the Pesky Bulls deserved.
Their lead was doubled on the stroke of half time as Matthew Hamilton went around the visiting keeper and fired a shot across goal and into the net.
The second half was far scrappier as the visitors looked to get back into the game. At times, the visitors lay siege upon the Cables goal but could not beat goalkeeper Ollie Taylor who made a succession of good saves to keep Brighouse at bay.
The visitors did score on 79 minutes when substitute Eddie Church beat the offside trap and finished past Taylor.
During the last ten minutes, Cables had to dig deep and defend resolutely. A red card for Reece Kendal meant the visitors had to play the last few minutes with 10 men as Cables held on for the win.
