Cables produced the perfect away performance to make progress in the Buildbase FA Trophy, beating Clitheroe 3-0 thanks to a hat trick from George Hassall.
Having survived a period of early pressure from the home side, Cables took the lead through a wonderful counter-attack. Lloyd Dean slipped away from his marker and was through on goal; his squared pass was struck firmly by Hassall, past the onrushing Clitheroe goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to Cables on 23 minutes.
Cables made it 2-0 five minutes before half time. Again, they caught the hosts on the counter-attack, down the right hand side. This time James Edgar saw his shot saved only for the ball to rebound to Hassall who was able to tap the ball home.
The second half saw Cables come under a sustained period of pressure from Clitheroe as the Blues sought to get back into the game. However, the introduction of Rodrigo for Martyn Jackson settled things down and allowed Hassall to claim his hat-trick on 59 minutes. The Brazilian was unmarked in central midfield and his pass found James Edgar who in turn produced a perfect cross for the Cables number 9 to head home and seal the Pesky Bulls’ passage through to the next round of the Trophy.
