Prescot Cables 1-2 Marine: Match Report

Two Niall Cummins goals in the first half were enough for Marine to see off Prescot Cables at the IP Truck Parts Stadium.

A bumper New Year’s Day crowd were treated to an exciting first half and the visitors took the lead on just six minutes after Cummins was able to seize upon Ollie Taylor’s hesitation and nod the ball past the Cables ‘keeper.

Cables equalised on twenty-two minutes when Matty Hamilton tapped the ball home from James McCulloch’s ball across the six-yard area.

Cables conceded a penalty just before half time, allowing Cummins to get his second of the game as he stroked his spot kick past the diving Ollie Taylor.

The second half was a far more turgid affair as neither side was able to create any chances of note. Neither goalkeeper was called in to action as it became a war of attrition which saw the visitors manage the game to a conclusion.
