Prescot Cables played out their second goalless draw in a week on Tuesday night in a battling draw against a Colne side whose league position does not reflect the standard of their performance.
Indeed, there were plenty of positives to take from the display at the IP Truck Parts Stadium and if truth be told, Cables could have won the game had one or two chances gone their way.
The first half was largely uneventful with neither side creating anything that would seriously test the two goalkeepers. Matty Hamilton had Cables best chance of the half when he put a curling free kick over the bar.
The second half started with the visitors playing with more attacking intent. Cables were able to absorb this and then began to assert themselves upon the game and pin Colne inside their own half. Rodrigo Schmidtdinger Mann and Josh Gregory linked up well on the right-hand side to create several good opportunities for Cables to score. Both Gregory and Hamilton saw efforts cleared or blocked while James Edgar saw an excellent effort deflected just wide of the Hope Street End goal.
The visitors almost grabbed what would have been an unlikely late winner in stoppage time when substitute Tony Donaldson, clean through on goal, struck the bar with a fierce drive.
Cables XI: Taylor, Schmitdinger (Fernandes 63), McCulloch, Cooper, McNally, Turner, Gregory, Myler (Klein-Davies 83), Edgar, Dean, Hamilton
